Bishop Pates, joined Bill in the studio as the first guest of the day. Bishop Pates was on to talk about the Symposium that will be October, 2nd and 3rd. "What God Has Given Given and Human Hands Have Made" is the title of a symposium to be presented on the 30th anniversary of the visit of Pope John Paul II to Iowa. The Diocese of Des Moines, Living History Farms and the National Catholic Rural Life Conference are sponsoring the commemoration of the Holy Father's visit to express gratitude; and to explore agriculture, feeding the world, environmental ethics and spirituality.

Mary Beth Beacom and Mike Moody were in the studio with Bill and Rich as there second guests of the day. They were on speaking about the positives that home schooling has on children. And they dismissed some of the myths that are associated with home schooling ones child. They also talked about the Columbus Academy. "Columbus Academy is a Roman Catholic Home Schooling Support Group with the purpose of encouraging parents as the primary educators of their children. We seek to form friendships, share resources, and learn from one another while remaining faithful to the Magisterium and all the Truths of the Catholic Church."

Dr. Gratten Brown, Belmont Abbey College, was the final guest of the day. Dr. Brown was discussing the current health care bill and the devastating affect it could have on abortion. Dr. Brown is an Assistant Professor of Theology at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont North Carolina.

He discussed the Iowa Family Policy's efforts against same sex marriage. IFPC'S mission is to restore and defend traditional moral principles in the culture by advocating for sound public policy.

Former Senator Rick Santorum was Bill and Rich's second guest of the day. The former Senator will be in town on Thursday for the Pro-Life training session. He discussed his excitement for the event and talked about the importance of Pro-Life with Bill and Rich. -Dr. Jim Blessman and Steve Cashman, Blessman Ministries, were the final guests of the week. They were on to talk about Blessman Ministries and the work that they do in Africa. Dr. Blessman left his medical practice in 2001 to work in this ministry full time. Every year over 100 Americans come over to work and volunteer with Blessman Ministries. Steve Cashman has participated and he shared his story with Bill and Rich.

- Rachel Mabery, Phoenix House, Was Bill and Rich's first guest of the day. The Phoenix House Domestic Violence Shelter & Sexual Abuse Program provides domestic violence and sexual abuse services to anyone faced with these issues through a 24-hour emergency shelter and crisis phone line, court advocacy, educational groups and through outreach to undeserved populations. The shelter provides safe, confidential living for up to eight families at a time. A large outdoor playground and an indoor playroom allow children a place where they can be kids, away from the fear of violence in their home. There are many events planned for October which is Domestic Violence Awareness month.

- Fr. David Muenchrath, Director of Vocations, was the second guest of the day. Fr. Muenchrath was discussing people who are looking at their vocations. He recommended Theology of the Body for people who are trying to discover what God has planned for them. Because people need to remember that it is God who directs us in our lives.

Dave Dixon, with Theology on Tap, was Bill and Rich's first guest of the day. Dave visited the pledge drive on Friday to help raise money for the station. Dave was excited to tell Bill and Rich that Tom Chapman will be this month's guest on Thursday the 24th at Okoboji Grill in Pleasant Hill Tom Chapman will be with us to discuss "Health Care Reform"

Lois Burkhart, Divine Treasures, was the second guest on Bill and Rich in the morning. She was discussing the book "The Fulfillment of All Desire". Fr. Najim, Vocation Director for the Diocese of Providence, Rhode Island, was on the phone with Bill and Rich. He discussed the history of his call process. He also talked about the possibilities with vocations.

Joe Nolte, Ft. Des Moines Museum and Education Center,was the final guest of the day. Joe is with the Ft. Des Moines Museum and Education Center. The museum and education center honors the U.S. Army's first officer candidate class for African American men in 1917, and the establishment of the first Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC's) in 1942.

Msgr. Boganno was Bill and Rich's first guest of the day. He was speaking about Perpetual Adoration. "Perpetual Adoration is a Eucharistic devotion whereby members of a given parish (or other entity) unite in taking hours of adoration before the Most Blessed Sacrament, both during the day and throughout the night, seven days a week."



Cheryl Fornier, Des Moines Diocese, was Bill and Rich's second guest of the day. This is a grass roots effort to help everyone re energize their Faith, and to help grow in your Faith Community. This is a great call to large and small parishes to get to know your members. The most exciting part of this program is that it doesn't end it helps you continue to grow in your Faith.

April Young, With Novos on Grand, was Bill and Rich's 1st guest of the day. April promoted the next Novos on Grand event. Novos on Grand is a group started to unite the young people of our diocese. With so many people nervous to go back to church Novos knows that it is easier to go with a friend. Following Mass the group will have a Wii bowling tournament.

Richard Lane, Catholic Evangelist, was Bill and Rich's second guest of the day. Richard shared stories of the recent events that he had participated in. Richard then told his journey to the Catholic faith. Growing up in Detroit, Richard was raised as a Lutheran. During his teen years he found trouble going to church every week but his mother said you have to go to a church. He ended up going with his friend to a baptist church. During his time in the Army Richard began attending the Catholic services and began to realize his calling to the Catholic Church. Richard now goes around being an Evangelist preaching the good news.

Tyler Price, with Martyrs of the Third Millennium, joined Bill and Rich in the studio as the first guest of the day. Martyrs of the Third Millennium is a group of young adults that wants to continue in their Faith. "An evening for young adults in the Des Moines Diocese to come together in worship and adoration of our Lord. The evening includes prayer, music, speakers relevant for our age group and the liturgical season." The group invites young adults from 18 and older to attend their next night which will be September 13th at St. Pius X Catholic
Church in Urbandale.Deacon Troy Thompson will be the guest speaker.

Rick and Ryan from the Knights of Malta, came to the studio as the second guests of the day. "
The Knights of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem (to give their full name) were formed long before their reign on Malta. The Order was originally established in 1085 as a community of monks responsible for looking after the sick at the Hospital of St. John in Jerusalem. They later became a military order, defending crusader territory in the Holy Lands and safeguarding the perilous routes taken by medieval pilgrims."

The book sale started to give people another opportunity to buy books a cheap price than going to the Planned Parenthood book sale. The sale will start tomorrow at 4 pm and every other day it will start at 9am. Sunday it will not be going on in honor of our Lord. It will be at Veteran's Memorial Auditorium.

Kristan Hawkins, mother of a child with cystic fibrosis, was the second guest of the day. She discussed the issues that would arise with the health care bill and how her son would not be able to receive the care that he would need to have a healthy life.

Joan shared with Bill and Sherrill the story of how her neighbor found her lost wedding ring in a pile of leaves after praying for help. Jerry Deegan, President of Dowling High School, was the second guest of the day. The first point of discussion was about the upcoming football game this week against Valley. Bill and Jerry were encouraging people to go out in numbers and support Dowling at Drake stadium this Friday night. Dr. Deegan was excited to announce that they had 1292 kids enrolled at Dowling and the Freshmen class consisted of 363 students.
