Featured National Guest: Julie Storr, Sioux City Council of Catholic Women
Featured Catholic News: Matthew Bunson, Our Sunday Visitor

Matthew Bunson with Our Sunday Visitor apprised us of news, we as Catholics need to be aware of. His first story was on John Henry Newman who is on the fast track to beatification. He is now accredited with the miraculous healing of Jack Sullivan of Massachusetts' spinal cord disorder. The miracle only waits on the Holy Father's signature but has made it through the Church's rigorous examination. The Church ascertains whether or not the healing is indeed miraculous and then conducts further studies with a board of medical doctors and theologeans.

Matthew also informed us that there are two different movements going on in the U.N. and the U.S. House of Representatives that we need to keep our eyes open to. The U.N. is getting closer to creating a Super Women's Agency, which at first glance seems like a fine endeavor. Looking deeper into what this agency would consist of you find a pro-abortion agenda. You also find a pro-abortion agenda hidden wihtin a bill that just passed in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Foreign Relations Authorization Act will mobilize $40 billion over 5 years and a major component of that money will go to advocating for reproductive health 'rights' to unrestricted abortion for all. Along with the obvious objections to these pro-abortion movements, Matthew also brought up the consideration, that with so many other health issues that women around the world are having, to focus on providing them abortion, which is a procedure that does not enhance a woman's health, seems a frivolous use of money.

Morgan Streeter with the Fatherhood Initiative through the YMCA joined us as well. The Fatherhood Initiative is part of the Fathers and Families Coalition. It addresses teh growing need to get fathers involved with their kids.

Kids without the influence of their father in their lives are more likely to drop out of school, abuse drugs and alcohol, and other such tendencies. At this point 80% of the people in prison did not have their fathers in their lives.

Morgan drew an important analogy in that fathers are supposed to look to St. Joseph, the father of Jesus and truly learn to serve their wives and children. So often fathers fall into the misconception that being the leader of the family means that they hold all the power. They do hold the power in the family, but it is in service of the family, to discover and enact what is best for the family as a whole, uplifting it and its members to God.

Julie Storr joined us to promote the Sioux City Diocese's Council of Catholic Women's conference to be held in August. The conference will be held in Fort Dodge and focus on God's view of the role of women in society.

Today many young women find their value in the things of the world. They also fall prey to the misconception that their worth as a women is derived from things that fade. This Conference will help them discover anew the gift of their Authentic Fenininity through a look at Salvation History and the women in the Bible with Gina Bauer.
