Camine Boal, Outreach Developement Coordinator of the Iowa Alliance for Choice in Education joined Bill and Rich this morning for their first interview. Carmine explained to us what her organization is all about. Iowa Alliance for Choice in Education enables parents to make the choice for their child's education. They believe whether it is public, private or home schooled, if the family finds themselves to be financially burdened that they should have funding to support their children's education.

Carmine also shared with us that $3 millions of tax credits to private school tuition scholarships. The individual tax credit of 65% of the donation is still in effect and the corporation piece is a new addition. Carmine is excited on this development because it further enables the parents to make decisions on their child's education.

Michael Manno a lawyer who works for the Thomas Moore Law Center joined Bill and Rich for the second interview. He discussed the Freedom of Choice Act. Michael said that FOCA is a bill that was on the radar that was taken off the table for this year. FOCA would virtually wipe the slate clean and demolish any pro-life legislation or ground that the pro-life movement has made. Through that it would take away the conscience clause for health care professionals, informed consent, and parental consent.

Though FOCA has been taken off the table this year Catholics need to be aware that it is being disseminated into different legislation. Catholics need to stay informed and active during the health care reform as well as keeping an eye on other legislation that FOCA could creep into.
